Olympic Park Neighborhood Council Los Angeles, California
Senate Bill 827 has been a hot topic in Olympic Park and around the City of Los Angeles as Bay Area Senator Scott Wiener attempts to address the statewide housing shortage by allowing the State of California to override local zoning around transit hubs. His bill would have allowed building up to five stories within a half mile radius of our transit hubs, which has the potential to change the character of our neighborhoods. Single story homeowners could find themselves next door to a five story building with no way to stop it.
We are relieved to hear that this bill has been stopped, yet we caution the community that this fight is not over. Senator Wiener is already working on revising his bill to bring it back.
