OurLA 2040
October 21, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Los Angeles is in the midst of a renaissance. From the overwhelming approval of a transformative transit plan and our commitment to solve homelessness, to our pursuit of a sustainable city and the Olympic dream, there’s no doubt we Angelenos are ready to take our place on the global stage.
As we look to the future, we have an opportunity to shape the landscape of our diverse communities and design a city that meets the need of our neighborhoods, noticeably improves the quality of life, and delivers reliable, high-quality services to all residents. That’s why Los Angeles launched OurLA2040, a citywide initiative led by the LA Department of City Planning with the aim of updating our city’s General Plan.
The General Plan is a document that outlines goals, objectives, policies and programs to guide growth in Los Angeles. It is the heart and foundation of the city’s long-range vision and serves as the basis for decisions that affect all aspects of our everyday lives — from where we live and work to how we travel from place to place, and how we spend our time in the city.
OurLA2040 will help the city gather input on how LA should deal with land use and economic development, water and energy conservation, parks and open space, air quality, historic preservation, public facilities and community assets in the future. This initiative will result in a new 20-year citywide plan to be adopted in 2020, cementing strong and visionary policies to create a more prosperous, livable, and sustainable Los Angeles.
Throughout October, OurLA2040 will host a series of community conversations to get Angelenos, like you, to discuss what LA should look like in the decades ahead. Your participation will help inform LA’s policy goals and priorities. Bring your neighbors and friends to the October 7 conversation in Van Nuys or to any of the events listed here:
