Olympic Park Neighborhood Council Los Angeles, California
During our end of fiscal year 2020-2021 meetings in May and June the Olympic Park Neighborhood Council supported the community with $25,000 in Neighborhood Purposes Grants. This year due to the pandemic, we were limited in the events and outreach we could do, so we focused our budget on doing the most good for the community.
Our Grants Included:
Longwood Area Neighborhood Association for up to $5,000. The Longwood Area Neighborhood Association requested assistance with cleaning up a nuisance alley located between Longwood and Highland, W. 12th Street and Dockweiler. After clean up, LANA envisions steps to make the alley more of a green community space.
Koreatown Youth and Community Center for up to $5000. The KYCC Environmental Services Unit has planted 62 trees on Olympic Blvd from Normandie to Crenshaw Blvd. Since joining the City’s Green New Deal, KYCC has planted 1.078 trees in Los Angeles. KYCC plans to use the funds to visit and water the trees 1-2 times per month to further get them established.
The Peoples Concern for up to $5000. The People’s Concern is one of the largest homeless services providers in Los Angeles, focused on providing the opportunity to get off the streets and rebuild lives. This grant will provide motel vouchers to homeless individuals in Olympic Park. Each voucher makes a resident safer and is an introduction to the possibility of pursing additional services.
Los Angeles Conservation Corps for up to $5000. LACC provides corps members who are at risk youth with a job training program. This grant unleashes the power of youth to enhance Olympic Park while providing job training.
World Harvest Food Bank for up to $5000. World Harvest has been supporting OPNC families devastated by lost income due to the pandemic and has seen a 200% increase in families needing help. Our support will be used to purchase a three section refrigerated food storage unit.
